5 Dirty Facts About Mold
1. Bleach or Kilz will not kill mold and are not EPA registered mold products
2. Moisture in your walls or attic, even in small amounts, creates mold growth
3. If your home flooded or roof leaked, the moisture may not dry on its own
4. Removing moldy drywall and installing new will not keep mold away
5. Only a certified moisture inspection determines if your building is dry. If it is not dry, mold will return
Many claim to be mold specialists and have never been formally trained. Several homeowners have paid good money for mold remediation only to have mold return. This is usually due to a contractor failing to properly dry a home or from improper remediation techniques.
Don’t be a victim. Hire a company that shows proof of their training and certification. The largest certification and training boards in the field are the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (www.IICRC.org) and the Indoor Air Quality Association (www.IAQA.org). Visit their website to check a company’s certification training. Ensure your remediation contractor uses thermal imaging cameras to detect exactly where mold and moisture are present.
